Athlone Community College and Marist College are both in action this coming week in the quarter-final of the Leinster A championship. On Thursday the Community College take on reigning All-Ireland champions St Mary’s Edenderry in a game likely to be played in Kiltoom.
While ACC were crowned league champions before Christmas they will need to be at their very best to lower the colours of the reigning Leinster and All-Ireland champions. It has the makings of a battle royale and with a bit of luck the home side will be hoping they can edge it.
Marist College take on Knockbeg, Carlow in Castledaly on Friday next. The Carlow outfit have been made favourites but I have a feeling that Marist, who had 16 points to spare over St Mary’s Mullingar in the previous round, can do enough to progress to the semi-final.
If both Athlone teams win they will meet in the semi-final. What a prospect that is!
