Westmeath County Council has announced an extensive traffic management plan to facilitate the thousands of visitors expected in Mullingar for the unveiling of the Joe Dolan statue this weekend.
A weekend-long programme of events has been organised, culminating in the unveiling of the life-sized sculpture of the entertainer in Market Square on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
To facilitate Sunday’s crowds, Pearse Street Upper, Mount Street Upper, Oliver Plunkett Street, and Martin’s Lane will all be closed to vehicular traffic from 7am until 6pm this Sunday December 7.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout these streets and local diversions will be in operation and will be signposted.
The council is requesting all motorists not to park on any of the aforementioned streets from 12 midnight on Saturday December 6, in order to have streets clear for the event on Sunday. Large equipment will have to be brought into the area and it is important to have clear access on these streets. Public co-operation in this matter is essential and appreciated.
To assist the public, Westmeath County Council has announced that free parking will be in operation on all streets and in all public car parks in Mullingar on Saturday. The public car park in Harbour Street (across from Presentation Senior School ) is being reserved for buses and will be signposted.
