Athlone Community Radio nominated for MAMA award

Athlone Community Radio attended the MAMA Awards in the Abbey Theatre Dublin last Thursday, November 27, after being shortlisted in the Broadcast Media Category for Irena Cvetkovic’s programme ‘Across the Divide’.

Athlone Community Radio was presented with a certificate for Initiative and Excellence in the Broadcast Media Category, which was won by RTE’s ‘Spectrum’ programme.

The awards were attended by Alan Meany, Athlone Community Radio, Irena Cvetkovic, producer/presenter ‘Across the Divide’, Rachel Mwangi who was born in Kenya and was a guest on the first ‘Across the Divide’ programme, and Mary Lennon, station manager.

The Metro Eireann Media and Multicultural Awards showcase and celebrate the people, groups, events, companies, and institutions that have embraced diversity. The MAMAs were sponsored by Metro Eireann, Ireland Embracing Cultural Diversity, The Irish Times, Today Fm, Dublin City Council, Office for the Minister for Integration Policy, and Foras na Gaeilge.

The awards were presented by the Minister for Integration, Connor Lenihan, and were attended by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Eibhlin Byrne and ambassadors to Ireland from 17 different countries.

Des Bishop’s programme ‘In The Name of the Fada’ won the Foras na Gaeilge Award category. The Iris O’Brien Foundation Award was presented by Denis O’Brien to St Saviour’s Boxing Club, Dublin.

Athlone Community Radio was privileged to be nominated for these prestigious awards. With the help of volunteers and the community, Athlone Community Radio hopes to continue promoting multiculturalism.
