Peace of mind for pet owners with Pet Guardian Programme

The Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA ) held a coffee morning in Mullingar last week to mark the nationwide launch of the Pet Guardian Programme.

Members of the 14/28 Club at Bishopsgate Street, Mullingar enjoyed a talk from the DSPCA, and the company of rescued bichon frisée Murphy who came along to help out. A meeting is also due to be held in Athlone shortly.

The DSPCA’s Pet Guardian Programme allows pet owners to breathe a sigh of relief that in the event they are no longer able to care for their beloved pets, the DSPCA will take them in and find them a new and loving home. With evidence showing that pets can massively contribute to the health and happiness of animal-loving seniors, they also offer a Senior Foster and Adoption Programme that gives people the opportunity to have a suitable pet – no matter what their age!

Pet Guardian co-ordinator Aoife O’Driscoll says “We in the DSPCA are very excited about the launch! Many people worry about what will happen to their pets in the event of serious illness or their death and the Pet Guardian Programme offers peace of mind to loving pet owners. Knowing you have a solid plan in place for their future is very reassuring.

“Many people ask us ‘Is this service free?’ The answer is yes, it is free during your lifetime. All we ask is that you leave us a small bequest in your will to help us continue our vital work.”

This programme is open to anyone in Ireland of all ages.
