Popular singer/songwriter Mickey Joe Harte has been announced as the special guest for the final of the Song for Simon competition, to be held on Saturday February 2 at 8pm in the Sheraton Athlone Hotel.
The competition’s final 10 songs and performers, from country music to urban rap, have been selected to battle it out in the live final. The event is an excellent way to experience top new songwriting talent from all around the country, and to show solidarity with Midlands Simon Community as they continue their work to help end homelessness across the Midlands.
Mickey Joe Harte, from Lifford, Co Donegal has been a mainstay of the Irish popular music scene for more than 10 years. He has multiple platinum records to his credit as well as a number one and many top 20 hits in the Irish charts.
Mickey has toured extensively, supported and collaborated with artists including Paul Brady, Shane MacGowan, The Saw Doctors, The Chieftains, Kieran Goss, and Jack Tempchin (writer for The Eagles ). He has prolifically composed songs, and more recently theme songs for RTÉ TV programmes Lords of the Ring and Brian and Pippa Get Married.
His new album, entitled Forward to Reality, represents some of his best songs yet, offering an amazingly diverse range of themes, sounds, and subjects.
