Close contest at Westmeath Junior Snooker Championship

The 2012 Westmeath Junior Snooker Championship, kindly sponsored by Terry Parker of Direct TV Mullingar, was played in St Mary’s Snooker Club Mullingar and supported by some of the senior members on the night.

The final got under way and the favourite was Stephen von Beaumont, but Mickey Scally’s skill on the pool circuit might have helped him on the night. The first two frames of the best-of-five event were shared and the third and fourth frames went to the better player on the night and that was Stephen. Mickey did not get the best run of the balls and was outplayed in the safety side of the game, but it was great to see these young lads do battle on the club’s number one table. The final score was Stephen von Beaumont 3, Mickey Scally 1.

After the event Terry Parker of Direct TV presented the Championship Shield to the 2012 champion Stephen von Beaumont. He thanked all who played in the tournament and promised to sponsor another junior event between now and the new year. Pat Donohoe singled out Conor Bracken, the junior tournament director, for his efforts and also on reaching the semi-finals only to lose out to Mickey Scally.
