An exciting new film-making course is launched

The autumn programme continues at Hilltown Studio Theatre, Castlepollard with perhaps the most exciting training programme yet.

Rory Cawkhill of Hilltown Studio has organised an intensive applied course in film making. Film Training from Script to Screen will be conducted by internationally acclaimed tutors including the American producer of TV series 24, a scriptwriter from RTÉ’s Fair City, and a tutor cinematographer from New York University’s Tisch Film School. The intensive six-week course is aimed at all those who are considering a future career in film making and is organised in two modules, the autumn module starts on November 19 followed by the second module in February. The course is supported by Westmeath Community Development through the Rural Development (Leader ) Programme and is open to all residents of Westmeath interested in the practical aspects of film making.

This film training course is taking place at a time when Irish film is enjoying one of its periods of greatest success. The industry has grown hugely over the last decade and the audio visual production sector alone is estimated to be worth €550 million and employs over 6,000 individuals. It is against this background that participants considering a career in an aspect of film will be entering a sector which continues to be one of the success stories of the Irish economy.

The course will be held in the spectacular setting of Hilltown House, an 18th century listed building and home to the annual New Music Festival. As with all previous training programmes Hilltown Studio Theatre lays particular emphasis on the mentoring aspect of these programmes and with the film course, this mentoring programme will be developed with each of the tutors identifying for the individual participant possible future career choices based on the skills of the participant. The six-week course costs €75 per week and will take place Monday to Friday from 10.30am-5pm.
