Deputy Denis Naughten has congratulated the local committee for securing €190,000 of funding from Roscommon LEADER Partnership to develop a new Astro pitch for the Monksland/Bealnamullia community.
He explained that the project, which was spearheaded by Turlough Egan and a very active local committee, has been successful in securing a commitment of funding under the rural development programme to allow the €250k project to proceed.
“Credit is also due to the local board members and staff of LEADER who assisted the project through a very complex application process,” said Denis Naughten.
“The pitch to be located in Cushla, is of similar size to the one developed by Hodson Bay Celtic, and will be available to the local community and local sporting organisations.”
This announcement follows the recent opening of the new Primary Care Centre on the Tuam Road, the announcement of a new cycleway from Monksland to Ballinasloe on the old N6, and the imminent upgrade of the local public water supply.
