There was widespread praise and congratulations for Fianna Fáil’s Kieran Molloy this week as he returned to the council chambers after the summer break to reach his 25th year of service.
The longest sitting councillor of the current town council took the opportunity to confirm that he will not be contesting the next Local Election which is due in 2014.
“Twenty-five years flies by,” said Cllr Molloy. “I’ve been delighted over the past 25 years to work with such great councillors and officials. They are all fine people to work with. The officials here do tremendous work. There’s very little politics in this chamber.”
He went on to say that he won’t be sitting another term. “I won’t be here after my 28th year,” he said.
Cllr Molloy also thanked his family and friends for all their support over the years.
