Spread the funds for road signage

Dear Madam,

Once again cash-strapped Offaly Council spends more money on Doon crossroads, already in possession of no fewer than 22 road signs of varying descriptions and painted road surfaces. With all due respect to the tragic accident some time ago, the crossroads was not a factor; do we expect every crossroads in Ireland to have the same attention? But maybe Doon is just lucky enough to have a local councillor nearby!

I am sure the neighbouring council could spend the same wisely on the badly needed improvement to Knockaney Hill and some 100kph speed signs on the Athlone bypass, which currently is treated as a continuous motorway. At present there are two signs, one at each end, an ideal catchment area for the radar gun!

Yours etc,

K J Clarkson
