Duncan Stewart to speak at launch of Westmeath Bioenergy Action Plan

Westmeath Community Development are to host the launch of the first Bioenergy Action Plan for County Westmeath, with guest speaker Duncan Stewart, this Thursday July 12.

The action plan to promote the bioenergy sector in County Westmeath and the wider Midlands area will be launched at the Bloomfield House Hotel, Mullingar, on Thursday July 12 from 4-5.30pm.

‘BioRegions’ is a three-year inter-European project, funded by the European Commission under the Intelligent Energy Europe programme, promoting the development of ‘bioenergy regions’ across Europe, which are regions where a significant portion of the energy demand is met by sustainable bioenergy sources. The Action Plan has been drafted with input from project partners across Europe and key stakeholders from the region and sector, and has been led by Westmeath Community Development acting as the Irish project partner. The plan reviews the current energy and bioenergy situation in County Westmeath and sets bioenergy targets and actions to promote the bioenergy sector.

The launch event will include a presentation on the action plan, its key findings, the targets set, and the actions that various stakeholders are undertaking, and will be launched by keynote speaker and TV presenter Duncan Stewart. A summary of the action plan will be made available to attendees.
