Gerry Coffey auctioneer, valuer, estate agent sold farmlands by public auction at Divillys Bar, Glenamaddy last weekend.
The lands were described by the selling agent as comprising circa 6 acres of prime lands in one lot. The lands were opened at €15,000 and hectic bidding commenced from four active bidders - three local farmers and an auctioneer acting in trust - who battled it out until a price of €38,000 was achieved, at which stage auctioneer Gerry Coffey consulted with the vendor who is UK-based, and it was decided to place the property on the market. With no further bids forthcoming Gerry Coffey declared the lands sold to an adjoining farmer for €38,000.
Gerry described this as a good result with plenty of interest shown in the lands prior to auction. Solicitor Laura Glennon from Crean, O’Cleirigh & O’Dwyer’s Solicitors acted for the vendor with the carriage of sale. Gerry Coffey was pleased with the excellent auction result and claimed demand for land is still outstripping supply. He is currently looking for farm lands to sell for underbidders in the general Glenamaddy region.
At least two further land auctions planned include one on today, Friday June 29 at 4.30pm in Feeneys Bar, Williamstown for 22 acres in one lot at Tobinstown, Ballymoe. This is described by Gerry as a former Land Commission holding which is well fenced with good access and road frontage. There is a cattle yard and crush on these lands. This parcel offers a once in a lifetime chance to purchase a prime holding and would offer a local or adjoining farmer a chance to increase their holding at a time when farming is enjoying good returns on investment. Maps and further details available from the sole selling agent legal Billy Brandon and solicitor Patrick J Neilan, Roscommon. Gerry Coffey has demand for similar lots of lands in the region.
