The third level grants system has changed to an online application system for the coming academic year. This will apply to all new entry level students, so if you are intending to commence college in September, now is the time to get yourself into the system. The earlier you apply, the better chance you will have of getting payment on time.
The Athlone Institute of Technology Students Union urges all prospective students and their parents to get started on their application now, as there have been significant hold ups in the past. All the relevant information is available on www.studentfinance.ie
Students who are already in the system need to be aware if they are changing the levels of their course, for example from a higher certificate to an ordinary degree or honours degree, that they will be utilising the new system. If not changing, they will have to apply through the traditional routes.
The AIT Students Union will be holding a grants information evening in the next few weeks which will be open to all third level students regardless of whether they are prospective AIT students or not. This event will be advertised in due course.
