Westmeath Macra clubs urged to enter competition

Macra clubs from across Westmeath are being urged to enter this year’s AIB Macra na Feirme Club of the Year competition, which was launched last weekend at the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival in Athboy.

The AIB Club of the Year competition, run by Macra na Feirme, awards the most dynamic and active Macra clubs in the country. Six clubs are selected to go forward to the national final, which will take place at this year’s annual conference in Waterford over the October bank holiday weekend.

The AIB Best New Macra Member award will also be presented to an individual Macra member who is deemed by his/her club to have made a significant contribution to the development of the club during their first year of membership.

‘Best Emerging Club’ was a new category introduced to the competition last year and is specifically for new and emerging Macra clubs. The Best Emerging Club award has been designed to acknowledge the achievements of newly established Macra clubs. Macra clubs established after November 1, 2010 will be considered for the new award this year.

Speaking at the launch, Alan Jagoe, Macra national president said, “Clubs are the cornerstone of Macra within communities throughout Ireland. Macra is delighted to be able to recognise the best Macra clubs throughout the country with AIB’s support. Macra’s individual members and clubs are the reasons for the organisation’s success and it is important to recognise the hard work and effort put in. I encourage all clubs irrespective of their size to fill out the entry forms and get involved in the competition.”

Dr Finnegan of AIB Bank said, “This competition highlights the real and very meaningful contribution that Macra clubs and individual Macra members make to Irish communities. The standard of the competition continues to increase each year and this is a testament to the work, commitment and efforts of the individual Macra clubs.”

Application forms have been distributed to clubs, who can submit their applications directly to the Macra national office. To request a form please call (01 ) 4268900 or go to the download section of www.macra.ie
