Pat Nolan, senior national Tidy Town adjudicator, hosted six information evenings in Westmeath recently. The evenings were held in Glasson, Athlone, Ballynacarrgy, Kilbeggan, Kinnegad, and Mullingar and members of the public and members of local Tidy Town groups and residents associations were invited to attend.
Pat who was the tourism officer with South East Tourism prior to his retirement and who has been a senior national Tidy Towns adjudicator since 2006 stated that “The evenings were very successful and that the feedback from the groups who attended was very positive.” Mr Nolan has adjudicated in excess of 2,460 centres from the largest to the smallest in most counties around Ireland.
Ruth Maxwell, environment section, Westmeath County Council stated that “Pat was invited to host these evenings to give assistance and advice to the groups”. She continued that “He gave them advice on the filling of the application form to maximise points for the Tidy Towns competition and advice in the area of the practical work on the ground that makes a difference when the judge is assessing an area”.
The evenings are part of Westmeath County Council’s environmental awareness programme and each of the host locations provided refreshments for the participants at the close of the event. Ruth Maxwell stated that she “would like to thank each of the host locations and their members for their assistance in making the evenings a success”.
