Singers wanted for new all ladies group

Athlone now has a new ladies singing group in town, Athlone A Cappella.

The chorus was formed in January by David Farmer, the musical director of the group, with only four ladies and lots of ideas, but this brand new group already boasts a membership of 20. They sing four-part close harmony in the a cappella style, and meet every week in the Athlone Springs Hotel between 8pm and 10.30pm. They are currently looking for additional members who enjoy music and want to enjoy friendship with like-minded vocal enthusiasts.

The chorus will perform locally and nationally, and compete in music festivals, and are already booked to take part in the Sligo Music Festival in November. The chorus has received a grant from the Westmeath Arts Office to help their development plans, which according to David Farmer could ultimately take them abroad to represent Ireland on the international stage. The chorus is holding a new members night at the Athlone Springs on Wednesday June 6 - and anyone interested should contact [email protected] for details.
