Seven Westmeath students have won top prizes in this year’s 58th Texaco Children’s Art Competition.
In Category E, the third prize of €125 was won by Alan Sweeney (7 ), a student at Coosan National School, Athlone for his work entitled ‘Titanic 100th Anniversary’.
Another Westmeath success is Deirdre Manny (16 ), a pupil at St Joseph’s Secondary School, Rochfortbridge, who won first prize of €450 in category G for the third year in succession with her painting ‘White Wild Roses’. Her brother Lonan-Francis, a pupil at the same school, won a Special Merit Award in Category C.
Other Westmeath Special Merit Awards winners were Sadbh Beirne (14 ), Our Lady’s Bower, Athlone; Emily Jones (14 ), Loreto College, Mullingar; Fiona Broderick (10 ), Moate; and James O’Brien (8 ), St Oliver Plunkett Boy’s National School, Moate.
Prizes will be presented at a ceremony that takes place in Dublin in May at which all 161 top prize winners will be in attendance.
