Hottest ticket in town: Emmet Cahill’s début hometown concert at Mullingar Arts Centre

Emmet Cahill’s hometown début concert, on Saturday April 14 at Mullingar Arts Centre, will feature a wonderful selection of pieces, including items ranging from musical theatre to classical and traditional Irish to swing standards. Something for everyone, in fact!

This remarkably talented tenor is joined by some of his Celtic Thunder colleagues: guitarist and singer Neil Byrne, violinist Nicole Hudson, singer Rebecca Harkin, who is the sister of fellow Celtic Thunder frontman, Keith Harkin, and pianist Peter Sheridan who is also the musical director of the travelling ensemble.

Emmet (21 ) is surely a pastman of whom the Schola Cantorum at St Finian’s College is most proud. He has been singing and playing music from the very youngest age. His dad, Martin, began teaching him piano at five and he began voice training when he was seven, under the guidance of his mother, Carmel.

While at St Finian’s he studied piano, organ, and violin, but his true passion was singing. He has won many prizes and accolades for classical singing throughout the 32 counties. Upon completing his Leaving Cert, Emmet was awarded a place on the full-time music performance degree at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where he performed and studied voice training under the guidance of highly-regarded voice coach, Mary Brennan.

Emmet has performed on numerous occasions at the Gaiety Theatre and as a soloist at the National Concert Hall. He has been a multiple prizewinner at various National Feis Ceoil singing competitions, and was awarded the 2010 John McCormack Society’s Bursary for the most promising young singer, in addition to the most promising young singer at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

He performed for President Mary McAleese at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth; he has been featured on national television; and he was afforded the ultimate honour by the GAA when they invited him to sing the national anthem at the 125th anniversary celebrations, at Croke Park.

Recently returned from an extensive tour of America and Australia, Emmet’s concert is being presented as a fundraiser, by Mullingar and District Soroptimists, in aid of the St Vincent de Paul Education Fund.

Emmet Cahill in Concert will take place at Mullingar Arts Centre for one performance only, on Saturday April 14, at 8pm. Tickets are priced at €20/€15, from the box office on (044 ) 9347777, or call into the Arts Centre, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 9.30pm and on Saturdays, from 9am to 6pm.
