Westmeath v Carlow (Sunday, Nowlan Park, Kilkenny, 4pm )
Brian Hanley’s Westmeath hurlers face a serious test when they take on Carlow in the division 2A final in Nowlan Park on Sunday.
Carlow came out on top with four points to spare when the sides met in the group stages.
Westmeath’s prospects haven’t been helped with news that ace marksman Brendan Murtagh is ruled out through injury. Murtagh has been inspirational in many of the league outings so far and his absence leaves a massive void to be filled. Eoin and Adam Price and team captain Paddy Dowdall are also expected to be unavailable through injury.
A win would ensure promotion to division 1B while the loser remains in division 2A. Hanley has made no secret of the importance he places on gaining promotion. If they can achieve it despite the injuries it will be a fair achievement.
