Roscommon town’s annual Easter parade looks all set to be a spectacular affair this Sunday. A huge effort has been put in over the past few weeks and the committee reports that there are some very colourful and inventive floats this year which will make for a very entertaining day for all those attending.
Competition for prizes is expected to be stiff in the various categories, including best community/ voluntary entry, best commercial entry, best shop window display, and most entertaining entry.
The parade will follow its traditional route with floats assembling in the Abbeytown area in advance. Starting at approximately 1pm, the parade will make its way down Abbey Street, then onto Church Street and up Main Street to the reviewing stand which will be situated just in front of Bank of Ireland. Floats will then keep right, past The Square and onto Castle Street, concluding at Rockford’s, where there is ample parking if required.
The parade committee has organised additional post-parade entertainment this year and to accommodate this The Square area will have traffic restrictions in place until 5pm on Sunday. A selection of local artisan food and craft producers will display in the space between Bank of Ireland and the Old Jail, and there will be live music with local band Intervention and funfair amusements.
Anyone who would still like to enter a float is asked to email [email protected] by Good Friday at 5pm. For a full rundown on all that’s happening on Easter Sunday log on to the parade’s brand new website www.roscommoneasterparade.com
