Over half a million for paid parking projects

A list of projects in Mullingar to be funded by paid parking has been approved by councillors.

A total of just over €567,500 has been allocated from the revenue taken in from paid parking in the town.

The largest amount, a sum of €131,000, has been allocated to carry out works at Mount Street and Jail Hill, including improvements to Petit Castle garden, the footpaths at Mount Street and Jail Hill, and the undergrounding of cables at Jail Hill.

Some €78,650 has been set aside to contribute to car park rental while a further €75,000 will be used to carry out traffic management schemes in residential areas.

Footpaths and traffic islands in the town centre will be upgraded and repaired thanks to an allocation of €61,868. Improvements to the tune of €22,500 will also be made to parking facilities at Mount Street Gardens.

A sum of €50,000 has been allocated for the provision of a sculpture on the Delvin Road roundabout, €56,000 is to go towards phase 3 of the canal towpath upgrade, while €25,000 is to be used to enhance the roundabout at Clonmore on the R390.

An allocation of €20,000 is to be used to provide floral displays throughout the town centre.
