Local gardai have made two arrests this week in relation to commercial robberies committed around the town in the last fortnight.
A 29-year-old Dublin man living locally has been charged in relation to the jump-over and cash grab committed in Morelli’s chipper opposite the AIT on Saturday, November 8.
In a second breakthrough, an 18-year-old Athlonian has been charged with the break-in and robbery of Ladbrokes betting shop on Mardyke Street in the early hours of the same day.
Both are expected before the courts at the next available date.
Outside of the town, Gardai are seeking any witnesses who might assist with a robbery committed in Ballymahon in the early hours of last Saturday (November 14 ).
The Campus Oil filling station on the Lanesborough road was broken into and some cash, cigarettes and electronic equipment was taken.
Gardai are seeking anybody who might have been in the vicinity at the time and seen anything suspicious.
