Westmeath u21s face Dubs in Leinster semi-final

Westmeath u21 v Dublin u21s (Portlaoise, Wednesday, 7pm)

Westmeath u21 footballers face a stiff challenge when they meet an in-form Dublin side in Portlaoise on Wednesday night in the Leinster semi-final.

Pat Flanagan has indicated that his side will need to up their game if they are to get the better of the Metropolitans.

Westmeath were less than impressive in the opening half against Carlow but did find their feet after the break to run out eight point winners. On the same night Dublin put a disappointing Laois side to the sword in a clinical performance.

Dublin racked up a huge score against The O’Moore men and the game was over before half time. It is vital that Westmeath come out of the blocks quicker this time and not let Dublin build up a head of steam.

With the likes of John Heslin and Ger Egan likely to be in action for the seniors on Sunday, Westmeath supporters will be hoping they avoid injury.

Dublin are rarely as impressive when you get them west of the Spa Hotel so if Westmeath can hit form for the full hour they could book their place in the Leinster decider. What a boost for football in the county that would be.
