Top Irish acts announced for Galway Arts Festival Big Top

Live at the festival big top - James Vincent McMorrow, Lisa Hannigan, and The Coronas announced as first festival acts of 2012

The Coronas, James Vincent McMorrow, Lisa Hannigan, Bressie, The Kanyu Tree, and Elaine Mai will be amongst the top attractions at this year’s Galway Arts Festival Big Top.

The rise of James Vincent McMorrow has been staggering since the release of his debut album, Early in the Morning, in Ireland to widespread critical acclaim in February 2010. His current single, the exquisite version of the Steve Winwood song, ‘Higher Love’ is currently receiving rave reviews. James Vincent McMorrow will perform as part of a double bill with Lisa Hannigan with support from Elaine Mai at the Festival Big Top on Thursday July 26.

Lisa Hannigan’s career has skyrocketed since her early days performing with Damien Rice. The release of her double platinum, Choice Music Prize and Mercury Prize-nominated album See Sew in 2009 cemented her arrival. The album was followed by Passenger in 2011, and features the enchanting duet ‘O Sleep’ with Ray LaMontagne.

Double platinum selling act The Coronas released their third album Closer To You last November and this indie-rock four-piece have become the biggest-selling independent group in Ireland.

The band will perform as part of a triple-bill with Bressie and The Kanyu Tree on Friday July 27.

Nominated for Irish Song of the Year at the 2012 Meteor Choice Awards, Galway trio The Kanyu Tree’s star has been steadily rising since the release of their debut album, People Street last October. The album entered the Irish charts at number four and features hits like the infectious ‘Radio’, ‘Shelf Life’, and ‘Congratulations’ defining classic pop.

Former frontman with The Blizzards, and now solo artist, Bressie has managed to combine musical genres to glorious effect on his debut single ‘Can’t Stay Young Forever’ and on his first solo album Colourblind Stereo. Following the release of the album he is now a judge on the hit TV series The Voice of Ireland.
