The Midlands branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD ) is pleased to announce details of an upcoming presentation: Effective Case Preparation for Employment Law Hearings. The event, which is kindly sponsored by Vhi Healthcare and Athlone Institute of Technology, will take place in AIT at 6pm on Wednesday March 7, where the principal speaker will be Warren Parkes of Warren Parkes Solicitors.
This is the penultimate event in CIPD Midlands Region Committee’s exciting programme of events for 2011/2012. The overriding theme throughout the 2011/2012 programme of events has been a focus on ‘Providing a Practical Approach to People Management’.
Effective case preparation is vital from the perspective of ensuring that an employer is in a position to limit its liability in employment law cases. This event will focus on how employers, or those representing employers, should best prepare their defence for employment law claims before the various statutory employment law fora, and will share the tricks of the trade with the audience and equip them with the practical knowledge to successfully defend employment law claims. The speaker will explain how precedent or case law is just as important as the legislation grounding the employee’s claim and why it is vital to have a thorough knowledge of the cases relevant to the nature of the claim.
Warren Parkes is a solicitor based in Dublin, and is the owner of Warren Parkes Solicitors and practising predominately in the area of employment law and defence litigation, Warren frequently represents employers operating in industry sectors where rates of pay and conditions of employment are controlled. His particular speciality is in the areas of Registered Employment Agreements and Employment Regulation Orders and is retained by one of the country’s largest multi-sector employment agencies. He also regularly provides professional legal advices to clients negotiating severance terms with their employees.
Warren has extensive experience both defending and prosecuting employment law cases before all of the statutory employment law fora, including the Labour Relations Commission, the Employment Appeals Tribunal, the Labour Court, and the Equality Tribunal.
The CIPD Midlands Region provides a forum for HR and business leaders in both public and private enterprises to network and share information, skills, and best practice in the areas of human resource management, employment law, employee and industrial relations.
