A two-year-old boy has died following an accident at a Coosan housing estate yesterday lunchtime.
It is believed the toddler rambled out from the family home in the Rindoon estate on Two-Mile, near the former An Post sorting depot, before the alarm was raised and a search begun by the family and neighbours.
The child was found a short time later in water in an unfinished part of a neighbouring estate, and taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe in a critical condition. He was pronounced dead yesterday afternoon.
Both Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are to begin an investigation into the incident.
