The only coffee shop in Athlone directly by the river Shannon, Shannon Crafts & Coffee Dock on The Strand has a great view of Athlone Castle, the town bridge, and St Peter and Paul’s Church, with outside tables where you can relax in a lovely atmosphere.
Shannon Crafts & Coffee Dock has a very good selection of homemade German cakes, Black Forest and strawberry gateaux. They also provide made-to-order birthday and christening cakes, or cakes for any occasion, with fresh cream. They also offer a wide range of crumbles including apple, rhubarb, plum, etc. Scones are made fresh every morning.
And for the not so sweet-toothed, there are homemade soups with brown bread and butter, a variety of sandwiches made to order, paninis, and ciabattas with different fillings. They also offer a wide selection of herbal teas, coffees, lattes, cappucinos, and more.
Come summer time, you can enjoy ice-cream sundaes and cool soft drinks on the veranda, not forgetting their range of flower crafts and gifts, in baskets and vases, and much more including lighthouses, sailing boats, and a variety of ornaments and souvenirs.
Shannon Crafts & Coffee Dock is open from 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Saturday during winter, and seven days a week from April onwards.
