Who doesn’t need a relaxing escape every once in a while? If you’re looking for something a little different as you pamper yourself and recharge the batteries, Heather & Earth by C Spa at the Carlton Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe has a range of wonderful therapies, many with a uniquely Irish twist.
I visited the new-look spa recently to try out the Coffee and Sea Kelp Contour Wrap, which promises to “increase cellular metabolism and detoxification”, assist circulation, and reduce cellulite, something we could all do with as we struggle to keep up the momentum on our new year resolutions.
Following a spell in the peaceful relaxation room with its twinkling overhead stars, Michelle began my treatment by applying the heated coffee and sea kelp organic contour scrub to the body. This warm, sumptuous scrub with ground pumice gently awakens the senses, exfoliating and invigorating the skin. Rich in vitamins and antioxidants, the scrub smells delicious - a warm coffee aroma - and feels gentle and luxurious on the skin.
I was then wrapped up in soft linen and left to unwind for 15 minutes. With the delicious wrap, combined with the heated massage table, it was all I could do not to nod off as I relaxed and let the coffee and sea kelp work their magic.
After the wrap, tangerine and rose oil and body moisturiser were heated and applied to the body, leaving skin soft and smooth. The treatment was completed with a tailored contour massage to ease out any aches and pains and leave me feeling totally relaxed and refreshed.
My skin felt fabulous after this treatment, which certainly nourishes the skin, leaving it soft and supple. A cup of herbal tea and some fruit completed my detox treatment as I returned to the relaxation room for some valuable me-time before re-entering the real world.
