Tyrrellspass will have to wait until March 2013 to look for council funding towards their St Patrick’s Day parade, as it emerged that there is no funding set aside for the village’s festival this year.
Cllr Colm Arthur was disappointed to learn that this year’s budget for St Patrick’s Day parades had already been allocated to the Athlone and Mullingar parades, as the Tyrrellspass parade is “the only one in the Kilbeggan Area”.
“It’s a big day for Tyrrellspass, they are as entitled to support from the council as the rate-payers in Mullingar,” he said.
Acting director of services Edel Martin said that the Tyrrellspass committee is welcome to put forward a request later this year for consideration in the 2013 budget.
