Positive Steps 2012 - Competition for job seekers launched

This week Deputy Nicky McFadden launched a new competition, Positive Steps 2012, for job seekers and people going through redundancy in Athlone. This is a six week programme for the 6 chosen winners.

“As we start the new year,” said McFadden, “We all have new year resolutions to start afresh. This competition provides the perfect platform for anyone unemployed, who wants to turn over a new leaf and look at a new direction. There are considerable prizes on offer for six people who will get the opportunity to look at their skills, re-examine their CV, challenge their thinking around their strengths and weaknesses, and get tips on doing interviews.

“Facing redundancy is a stressful time for anyone and seeking out new work opportunities will result in changes in one’s life hence the persons successful in this competition will be invited to look at themselves holistically,” said John McGrath, president of Athlone Chamber..

“You cannot change one part of your life without affecting another part. There is a wide range of services on offer in Athlone to help you make such life changes and we were delighted with the very positive response from all the businesses that were readily prepared to offer their services free to six lucky winners.”

Chrysalis Evolution is offering the ultimate career skills package - a personal career coaching package for each of the six winners. Participants will have access to the most up-to-date psychometric testing tool and receive a personalised career report. “We will guide the six lucky winners”, said David Jackson, Chrysalis Evolution, “towards the role in life that’s just right for them; we will help identify their individual skills and develop their full potential. Jackson added “On a practical basis the winners will get their portfolio together, prepare their best CV for the job market and a compelling covering letter, put a job hunting plan in place and devise the best strategy for interviews by learning from other’s mistakes and gain insights into the whole interview process.”

Liam Cunningham of Athlone Regional Sports Centre said, “We are offering a total fitness programme for the six weeks that will get you fit, deal with stress, and set you on a healthy start for 2012. Being physically fit and mentally strong is essential to help us deal with all the changes facing you in the new year.”

Athlone Towncentre will help the winners build their personal brand and identify their styles. Delilah, the Athlone Towncentre fashion stylist and personal shopper, will be available for individual consultations, accompanying the winners through the Athlone Towncentre and will offer tips on how to dress to suit an individual’s shape and personality, working the key trends of the season and assisting the candidates in selecting key pieces and looks that flatter figure, shape, and lifestyle.

Lynda McFarland, The Athlone Nutrition Clinic, will work with each individual winner and provide a tailored nutrition and diet plan for good health. The Athlone Nutritional Clinic will help the winners develop a healthy lifestyle.
