Westmeath County Council seeks applications for arts grants

Westmeath County Council is currently looking for applications for three arts schemes which they operate on an annual basis.

Artists and groups have the opportunity to seek funding through three different grants: individual artists bursaries, Arts in Community Scheme, and Arts Act grants.

Individual artists’ bursaries provide funding for individual professional artists based in Westmeath who earn a proportion of their annual income through their artistic endeavours. The council offers annual bursaries in respect of the professional development of individual professional artists practising in any of the artistic disciplines outlined in the County Arts Plan. The closing date for applications is March 1.

As part of the Arts in Community Scheme the Arts in Context Residency scheme provides specific project funding to enable artists in the county to work with any school or community group for arts projects across all disciplines. Funding issued by Westmeath County Council will go directly to pay the artists fees and the school or group must supply any materials required for the project. This scheme is to encourage meaningful collaboration between a selected group of individuals and an artist working on a particular project over a defined period of time. This scheme is designed to allow the group a unique opportunity to engage with an artist directly on a specific project. This scheme gives employment to an artist working with a group over a defined period and it allows the group to gain specific skills and expertise in the area of the arts. Closing date for applications is March 1.

Along with these two artists grants, Westmeath County Council also offers a grant to aid community, voluntary, and amateur arts groups or organisations which will stimulate public interest in the arts; promote the knowledge, appreciation, and practice of the arts; or assist in improving the standards of the arts. The Arts Act Grant defines the arts as painting, sculpture, architecture, music, film, drama, dance, literature, design in industry, and the fine arts and applied arts generally. Closing date for applications is March 1.
