A brand new season of classes for young people begins at Roscommon Arts Centre in January, offering the perfect opportunity for children and young people to learn a new skill or improve an old one.
Local musician and tutor John Wynne returns with his popular tin whistle and flute classes for young people aged 7+. John has experience teaching regularly at festivals all over Ireland and has won All-Ireland titles on both flute and tin whistle. He specialises in the celebrated North Connaught flute style. This season John has changed class times to a little later to allow secondary school students to attend, with Tuesday evening beginners classes from 5.30pm and more advanced students from 6.30pm. The arts centre are delighted to be working with well-known singer Pauline Hanly for a brand new series of traditional singing classes. Pauline has over 30 years’ experience working with children and young people and is an All-Ireland champion traditional and sean nós singer. She has also taught many All-Ireland champions and possesses a profound love of Irish tradition, music, and folklore. Pupils gain confidence to sing and speak in public, in this imaginative way of introducing children to their cultural heritage.
Classes are available to children and young people of all ages, and begin on Tuesday January 10 for a five-week term. A second term will begin in early February. More details are available from Roscommon Arts Centre at (090 ) 6625824.
