It’s January and we’re all feeling the effects of our over-indulgence at Christmas time - the mince pies, the chocolates, the never ending turkey - so why not stimulate your body’s own natural ability to rid itself of toxins by embarking on a detoxification programme? This internal spring clean will not only clear out the excesses of Christmas but also the toxins that have built up over months and years of excess.

Start drinking more water, 1.5-2 litres daily.

Boost circulation with some gentle exercise.

Eat more fruit and veg, especially the greens, and cut down on red meat.

Relax and have an epsom salt bath.

Cider vinegar is made by the fermentation of apples, and it is this fermented fruit acid that contains a host of beneficial vitamins and minerals, including potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and other trace minerals, as well as pectin.

Cider vinegar is known traditionally as a powerful detoxifying food as it breaks down mucus and phlegm in the body. It has also been used as a remedy for arthritis as it can break down the acid crystals that can harden in the joints causing pain. Add 2 tbsp to a glass of water daily. Buy a good quality organic brand in your local health food shop.
