The folks behind Helium 2011 are delighted to announce that the Ballymahon micro-music charity festival has beaten off some very stiff competition to win the inaugural award for the Best Social Media Campaign for a festival or event in Ireland.
The awards were announced last Friday night at the Carlton Best of Festival Marketing Awards for 2011 as part of the Business of Fun conference organised by the Association of Irish Festivals (AOIFE ) in association with Fáilte Ireland, which took place last Thursday and Friday.
Helium 2011 is entirely run by volunteers and has managed to raise thousands of euros for the Friedreichs Ataxia Association of Ireland over the past three years - with combined cheques of €12,000 presented to the charity this year.
The award for Best Social Media Campaign is a very special accolade for an exciting fledgling festival like Helium - it shows that the dedication of the thousands of online fans of the event really has paid off.
But as they say, the proof is in the pudding and that was certainly the case with Helium, as with little or no marketing budget, the 2011 event was sold out two days in advance. The amazing ticket sales were the result of a strategic online social networking campaign which was spearheaded by the generosity and talent of the folks at Mobanode in Limerick - producers of the Helium 2011 Festival app for iPhone – one of the very first in the country for a festival of this size.
The festival committee are extremely grateful for the support that has been shown towards the annual event so far and are delighted to share this news with the community that has helped it to grow and develop from the outset.
