Santa’s brave arrival to Athlone

With less than 40 shopping days left to Christmas 2008, Athlone Towncentre gets into the festive spirit this week.

On Saturday November 15, Santa Claus will make his first visit to the Midlands, arriving at Athlone Towncentre in spectacular fashion. Space has been cleared on the top of the Sheraton Hotel, the Midlands’ tallest building, to allow for Santa’s safe landing in Athlone, ahead of his visit to the centre at 1.30pm.

After landing on the roof of the Sheraton Hotel, Santa intends to abseil down the side of the 12-storey hotel tower before calling in to meet the children and families in Athlone Towncentre. Everyone is invited to cheer him on from the central mall of the shopping centre. The South Westmeath Hospice will also be involved in Santa’s arrival and will be collecting in the centre on the day, with all proceeds going to the provision of hospice services in the locality.

This year, Athlone Towncentre has undertaken various community activities for the Christmas period, which include having many of the local school children decorate the baubles for its Christmas trees, teaming up with local charities for a ‘Giving Tree’ which will be located on the centre mall - the proceeds of which will be given to underprivileged families locally - and also a number of school choirs will perform on the mall-over the Christmas period.

Coupled with all this activity, Athlone Towncentre also offers fantastic value in over 70 stores, all of which are located under one roof with secure underground car parking for over 1200 cars, making sure that you are well protected from the unpredictable Irish weather.
