Parents urged to pre-enrol for Educate Together

The Athlone Educate Together group is to host a coffee morning for interested parents in the coming weeks, following a successful pre-enrolment day last Saturday.

The pre-enrolment day for the proposed national school in Athlone gave parents in Athlone and surrounding areas the opportunity to enrol their children in the school, which Educate Together hopes will be given permission to open in the near future.

A spokesperson for Educate Together said that pre-enrolment is an important part of the process of opening a new school. It is how the Department of Education will determine whether or not there is interest in this type of school, and is also the best way for parents to ensure that they are part of the process; even if their children are young, they can still pre-enrol for a place in future years.

The local group is working towards the opening of a school in Athlone for 2009, but ultimately the decision on whether or not the school opens is made by the Department of Education and Science. Educate Together has stated that it is committed to supporting parents in their quest to open the school, even if it takes a number of years.

The Athlone group will host a coffee morning for interested parents on Friday December 12. Details on this will follow later.
