CIPD Midlands to hold public event this November

CIPD Midlands presents: Workplace Investigations and the Role of Mediation in Conflict Intervention: A Case Study

The Midlands branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD ) has announce details of an upcoming event; Workplace Investigations and the Role of Mediation in Conflict Intervention: A Case Study. This event, which is kindly sponsored by Vhi Healthcare and the Athlone Springs Hotel, will take place in the Athlone Springs Hotel at 6pm on Wednesday November 16.

This is the second public event in an exciting programme of events for 2011/2012 provided by the CIPD Midlands Region Committee. The overriding theme throughout the 2011/2012 programme of events will focus on Providing a Practical Approach to People Management.

This event will explore the concept of mediation and how it can assist in dealing with workplace investigations and disputes. The event will be very much interactive in nature and will include detailed examples of actual cases where mediation was used, and its effectiveness in each particular case. The speakers on the evening will be Tom Ryan, chairperson, CIPD Midlands Committee, and Michael O’Sullivan, Arra HRD.

Michael O’Sullivan is the owner director of Arra HRD, a human resources management consultancy based in the Midlands. Arra HRD advises and represents employers with regard to employment issues in the workplace. Michael has represented employers in the Labour Court, at conciliation in the LRC, at Rights Commissioner Hearings, in the Equality Tribunal, and the Employment Appeals Tribunal. In addition he advises in-company in both union and non-union employments on all aspects of people management. The focus of his work is in the area of employment law, re-structuring, and conflict intervention through mediation.

Michael has a BA in management, a Masters in HRM, and is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD. He has a diploma in employment law from the Law Society of Ireland and a diploma in mediation and conflict intervention from NUI Maynooth. In 2011 Michael was awarded certified member status with the Mediators Institute of Ireland.

The CIPD Midlands region provides a forum for HR and business leaders in both public and private enterprises to network and share information, skills, and best practice in the area of human resource management, employment law, employee and industrial relations. The CIPD Midlands region is an active member of the Midlands Gateway Chamber and works closely with AIT, FAS, Enterprise Ireland, IDA, and other Midlands agencies to support regional initiatives and to promote people development and business performance.
