Exhibition ‘Stuff’ by Brendan Greally

Tosnú Art Gallery, Brackernagh, Ballinasloe will be hosting a solo exhibition by Brendan Greally. Tosnú is owned and managed by Joyce Little; it is the first time the gallery has opened it’s door to external artists, as it has been a family exhibition space.

“Now is a good time to open the gallery to full-time professional artists as I feel that Tosnú can offer the community an insight into the up and coming world of art,” Joyce explained.

Brendan Greally is a native of Ballinasloe and will be presenting the town with his first solo exhibition in 10 years. As an art graduate of GMIT and Crawford Academy Cork, Brendan is a highly accomplished and gifted artist. His new collection is entitled ‘Stuff’- an ironic title that aims to make art accessible in the locality – is a radical departure from subsequent collections.

Here Greally is concerning himself not with landscape but rather with the concept of introspect. ‘Stuff’ depicts Greally’s expressionistic style, exploring the relationship of the artist with his surroundings and thoughts, redefining one’s self and mindscape through the act of redefining the process and expectations of creating art.

Greally’s paintings are rich in colour, concept, and explore a multitude of sensations evoked in the viewer. The work is a playful dialogue between tone and tactility, and bounces from the canvas commanding the space it inhabits. Greally said: “My main concern is fluidity and the tactility of the work – imagery is secondary.”

Brendan Greally’s exhibition will be launched tonight, Friday November 14 at 7pm. ‘Stuff’ will be exhibited until November 30. Opening times of Tosnú Art Gallery: Wednesday to Saturday 2pm to 6pm.
