Roscommon hospital group supports INMO action

The Roscommon Hospital Action Committee has said it is “fully supportive” of the industrial action being undertaken by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation at Limerick Regional Hospital.

The committee said they wished to commend the action being undertaken on behalf of patients “who are being subjected to unsafe conditions in overcrowded Accident & Emergency departments throughout the country”.

“We are calling on other INMO members in acute hospitals to escalate their action and also call on the other health professionals and staff, unions, and associations to support any further actions that will put pressure on our Government and Minister of Health to provide minimum standards of health care for patients.

“Patients are entitled to expect a minimum standard of healthcare regardless of the nation’s financial situation. The existing policy of terminating and reducing A&E services and continuing to provide emergency health services for patients in unsafe conditions cannot be allowed to continue.”

The group is also calling on the Health Information and Quality Authority to conduct an urgent enquiry into the quality and safety of accident and emergency services being provided to patients throughout the country.
