Westmeath culture vultures have a lot to look forward to today [Friday], with more than 80 free Culture Night events lined up across the county.
For the second year running, Westmeath plays host to the largest line-up of events outside Dublin for Culture Night, with a wealth of exhibitions, dance performances, historic talks, musical concerts, drama, open gardens, street festivals, and much more.
Westmeath Culture Night is a platform to showcase the county’s rich cultural offerings, and is designed to make the arts accessible to everyone, enthusiasts and novices alike. All events are free.
Some highlights from Mullingar’s line-up include a puppet-making workshop in the library, performances from Mullingar Youth Academy and Mullingar Town Band, guided tours of the cathedral museum and Belvedere House and Gardens, art exhibitions, a night of traditional Irish music, song, and storytelling, and a showing of A View from a Bridge in Mullingar Arts Centre.
Moate hosts an equally impressive array of events, with an open day in Dun na Sí Heritage Park, poetry recitals, a cook-along, a performance from Moate Gospel Choir, and an art trail among the highlights.
Athlone is joining in the fun, with children’s storytelling, an exhibition by Midlands Photographic Club, the launch of Athlone Literary Festival, ‘The Case of the Exquisite Corpse’ exhibition in the newly opened Abbey Road Artist Studios, Viking tours, and more.
Events will begin at 9am and finish in the early hours in locations across the county including Kinnegad, Streete, Castlepollard, Milltown, Delvin, and Ballinacargy.
