Literacy programmes in south Westmeath

National Adult Literacy Awareness Week takes place next week from September 19 to 23. South Westmeath Literacy Scheme offers help to adults who have difficulties with reading, writing, spelling, or maths. Students can take part in a group or have one-to-one help from a volunteer tutor. The centre is open 60 hours every week with classes arranged at times to suit tutors and students. All learning is student driven, and all tuition is provided free of charge.

South Westmeath Adult Learning Programmes provide tuition in co-operation with many groups throughout the south Westmeath area, and are always interested in developing more links and methods of delivery. They also provide various courses on such topics as computers, communication skills, and cookery to name a few.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer tutor should contact the scheme. No qualifications are necessary as full training is provided. Names are currently being taken for the next tutor-training programme, which will take place in October 2011.

Anyone interested in discussing any of the above should contact Joan or Goretti at South Westmeath Literacy Scheme on (090 ) 6497002 or (086 ) 1731931.
