The countdown to the Ballinasloe Fair and Festival continues, and the search is on for this year’s Queen of the Fair. Europe’s oldest horse fair starts on Saturday October 1, and the Queen of the Fair will be crowned in the Carlton Shearwater Hotel on a gala night on Saturday September 17.
The successful candidate will represent Ballinasloe throughout the coming year at all prestigious events held in the town.
“We are thrilled to be associated with the Ballinasloe Horse Fair and to sponsor the event for the third year running. Everyone at the hotel is looking forward to another great fair this year,” said Martin Daly, general manager, Carlton Shearwater Hotel.
“The Carlton Shearwater Hotel Queen of the Fair event is always an excellent night and is one of the most eagerly awaited in our diary. It is a very prestigious award for the eventual winner and I would encourage all local clubs and societies to put a candidate forward for 2011.
“We recently had all the Rose of Tralee contestants through our doors and we look forward to another great night of fashion and fun with the local contestants for the Carlton Shearwater Hotel Queen of the Fair.
“This year, returning patrons to the hotel will now have the added bonus of our newly opened Marina Restaurant where new head chef Johnny Harvey has the finest of contemporary Irish menus on offer. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone during fair week,” he added.
The event will be compered by Ollie Turner of Galway Bay FM and this year’s prize includes a weekend for two at any Carlton Hotel around Ireland, a generous cash prize from Ballinasloe October Fair and Festival, and entry into the selection for the Galway Rose which will be held in March/April 2012.
