Tang book semi-final spot at expense of Caulry

Tang 1-7 Caulry 0-7

Goals win matches and it was a fortuitous Martin Rock goal which proved the difference between Tang and Caulry when they met in the intermediate quarter-final last weekend. Tang were quick out of the blocks and had built a 1-3 to no score lead after 15 minutes.

Brendan Clarke’s men rallied before half time and three unanswered points left them trailing 1-3 to 0-3 at the break. The introduction of Robbie Kenny and David Brookes strengthened the Caulry attack and by the 42nd minute they had taken the lead.

Having failed to score for over half an hour and with the game firmly in the melting pot it was Tang who seized the initiative. Three unanswered points was enough to see them safely through to the last four and end Caulry’s hopes for another year.

In the other intermediate quarter-final St Mary’s Rochfortbridge helped themselves to a 1-10 to 0-8 win over Shandonagh.

Meanwhile in the senior quarter-finals Tyrrellspass proved too strong for The Downs and they will now meet hot favourites Garrycastle in the semi-final. Mullingar Shamrocks proved far too hot for Castledaly and they can now look forward to an all-Mullingar semi-final clash with St Loman’s.
