Pat Flanagan has been re-appointed manager of our senior footballers for another year. Despite gaining promotion from division three there has been some unease at our championship performances leading to speculation that his re-appointment was not a foregone conclusion.
It is believed that he has parted with physical trainer Trevor Smullen and is expected to make further changes to his backroom team.
Westmeath who are very much in transition face a tough league campaign in division two next spring. Inevitably at this time of year talk turns to retirements and who if any will decide to call it a day. Rumour has it that a handful of our more senior players are seriously contemplating hanging up their inter-county boots. It will likely be later in the year before final decisions are made.
