Record Fairs Ireland returns to Athlone tomorrow, Saturday August 20, to offer the town a vinyl record fix for the autumn, and will be in the Prince of Wales hotel from 10.30am.
The fair has been travelling around the towns of the Midlands over the last number of years offering music fans a selection of hard-to-find classics in the most loved of formats - vinyl.
“In a music business where downloads are overtaking CDs, vinyl is the only physical format that has seen an increase in sales over the past five years,” said organiser Peter Keegan.
He believes this growth is simply because vinyl offers a better overall experience to the fan, with artwork and sleeve notes accompanying the music.
“Older music lovers grew up falling in love with rock ‘n’ roll through vinyl records, and many remember buying a new album, removing the cellophane wrapper and opening a full visual package along with the record itself.
“Once on the turntable they would take in the liner notes, the artistry and pictures.
“Over the last 20 years records were replaced by newer formats, each smaller than the previous where liner notes offered very little experience due to their size.”
For its many music lovers nothing can beat the crackle and purr of a vinyl record, but sadly it has become harder in recent years to buy and track down this; however, Record Fairs Ireland has been bringing a wide selection to towns throughout the country.
Tomorrow’s fair will have a huge range of vinyl records spanning almost every era and every genre, as well as a massive selection of hard-to-find CDs and DVDs.
