Most people are aware of the importance of an eye examination every two years for the purposes of their sight. Many, however, overlook the emphasis your optician places on your eye health. Previously an ophthalmoscope alone was used to look at the back of the eye, but this is now used in addition to a new technology called the fundus camera.
The fundus camera is the latest development in optical equipment. It takes a photograph of the retina (back of the eye ). The photograph can help detect early signs of age-related macular degeneration (AMD ), diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma, or even cholesterol and high blood pressure. As a result patients can get treatment earlier and with better results.
At Munnelly Opticians, the retinal camera is part of your routine sight test and therefore is at no extra charge.
