Athlone Round Table launch annual ball

Athlone Round Table’s 2008 annual charity ball will take place on November 22 at the Radisson, SAS Athlone.

The group, which consists of local business men, holds a ball each year to raise funds for local and national charities. Some of this year’s recipients will include the Baby Care Unit iin Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinalsoe, and the IHCPT, the Irish Pilgrimage Trust.

Entertainment on the night will be provided by Sean Slattery and the Connections, The Luascadhm and Danara Dancers, along with further entertainment treats.

To date, the Athlone Round Table has raised over €120,000 since 1999. According to Athlone Round Table chairman, Cormac Lohan, monies have been distributed to a wide range of charities such as South Westmeath Hospice, St Hilda’s, Special Care Baby Unit in Portiuncula Hospital, Athlone Meals on Wheels, Athlone Rape Crisis Centre, Athlone Samaritans, Athlone Simon Community, Athlone St. Vincent de Paul, Action Breast Cancer, Castledaly Senior Citizens, Athlone Sub Aqua Club, Athlone Youth Ministry, Athlone Chernobyl Project, and many more.

“As can be seen from the recipients of Athlone Round Table donations, Athlone Round Table is predominantly concerned with local charities and organisations,” said Mr Lohan.

Athlone Round Table has a long association with Athlone since the 1960s. Any money kindly donated to Athlone Round Table either by way of sponsorship of their annual ball or for any other matter, goes straight back to the local community and surrounding area.
