Buccaneers 45
Galwegians 19
Buccaneers u-15 side continued their fine start to the season with a comprehensive win over Galwegians in the Connacht League on Sunday last in Dubarry Park.
On a glorious day for rugby James Farrell again proved the hero with three more tries and a further three disallowed for forward passes. This brings his total to eleven tries in three matches. He was well backed up by an excellent performance from captain, Dylan Lynch who was superb all around the pitch, both in attack and defence. The game started with the young Buccs on the attack and the very first time they moved the ball wide James ‘Skittles’ Farrell was put clear only for the pass to be adjudged to have gone slightly forward. Dylan Lynch then had to spend a period in the blood bin as a result of a bloody nose but when he returned, his pass to Farrell was, again, slightly forward nullifying a potential score. At this point, coach, Clem Higginbotham was seen enjoying a bottle of SunnyD which had been donated by Ben Carty. Just after that Farrell scored the first of his tries when he received the ball after good passing by the backs. Cian Bradley kicked the conversion from in front of the posts. There followed another try by skittles following an interception which was again converted by Bradley. Against the run of play ,Galwegians got a try back when they broke clear on the unprotected blindside of a maul. Farrell then got his third try after some scintillating running down the wing. Jack Linnane, who was unable to play because he injured his back playing some strange game with a round ball, was vociferous in his support of the team. At half-time, Buccaneers were able to use their strength in depth by bringing on players of the quality of Simon Garvey and Alan O’Donovan. Ben Carty replaced Keith McKiernan at full back shortly after half time. Scott Flanagan then scored a marvellous team try which also involved Dylan Lynch and Eoin Maher. Shortly after this, Eoin Maher set up a try for Kevin Cooper following a superb cross field kick. Maher then made bits of the Galwegians defence by running the length of the pitch to score a try of his own. James Farrell then used his orange boots in the wrong way and got the line for five minutes. In his defence he was very unlucky as he had been wrong footed. During his absence, however, Galwegians scored two tries. The final score of the match came from Cian Bradley who ran a mazy path through the defence: surely a contender for try of the season. Ryan Sheridan had a solid game on his return to the team after injury, Colm Conroy is slotting into the front row very well, Robbie McMickam played very well in the centre, Keith McKiernan was reliable at full back and Saba Meunargia, from Georgia, was sensational at number 8. Brian Moore, John Sheridan, Tommy Kelly, and Pat Molloy all played their parts from the touchline. The next match is away to Creggs on Saturday.
