Vote for Sarsfield Square playground

Ten playgrounds across the country have been shortlisted for a Brennans Bread playground makeover to help bring family playtime back. Sarsfield Square Playground in Athlone is one of the lucky 10 and they need your help! You can help win a makeover for the playground by logging onto www.BrennansBread.ie to register your vote. Built by the urban council in 1937, the playground in Sarsfield Square was initiated by the residents and Athlone Town Council under the RAPID programme.

Commenting on the Brennans Bread Playtime initiative, Cllr Aengus O’Rourke, said, ‘To win this makeover would mean the world to the families in Sarsfield Square. Each and every family, whether they have young or grown-up children, respect, and appreciate the integral function of the playground. It brings people together to share in fun, to inspire health and wellbeing, to grow friendships and so much more. The people owe it to this playground to modernise and upgrade it, so it can continue to offer the service and facilities that support the young people of Sarsfield Square in such an important way, now and into the future.”

Adding to this, Ivan Hammond head of marketing at Brennans Bread said, “As a family business, we understand the importance of families taking some time out to spend together and what better way to do this than to encourage children to visit their local playground for some healthy playtime outside. By offering one town in Ireland the chance to win a playground makeover and by encouraging communities to come together, we hope to highlight the value of family and quality playtime. We wish Athlone the best of luck.”
