Drugs Task Force seeks public input

The Midland Regional Drugs Task Force (MRDTF ) is inviting members of the public to contribute to their new Substance Misuse Strategy by attending one of a series of public consultations later this month.

The four public consultation sessions will take place in Athlone, Tullamore, Longford, and Portlaoise, and the MRDTF are inviting all interested parties to attend the session of their choice. The purpose of the consultation sessions is to inform the new strategy of current needs within the MRDTF area and to identify priorities for the region.

The role of the Midland Regional Drugs Task Force (MRDTF ) is to research, develop, implement, and monitor a co-ordinated response to drug and alcohol misuse in the midland region of Westmeath, Longford, Offaly, and Laois.

The new Substance Misuse Strategy (2011-2014 ), currently being developed, will reflect local needs and circumstances. The new strategy will support the implementation of the National Drug Strategy 2009-2016 and the combined Substance Misuse Strategy 2009-2016.

Details of the public consultations are as follows:

Thursday June 23: Parish Centre, Portlaoise, 7.30pm -9.30pm

Monday June 27: Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone, 7.30pm-9.30pm

Tuesday June 28: Temperance Hall, New Street, Longford, 7.30pm – 9.30pm

Wednesday June 29: HSE Building, Clonminch, Tullamore, 7.30pm – 9.30pm

The MRDTF also invites interested parties to make submissions on the future development of the MRDTF Regional Substance Misuse Strategy.
